Description
This is a Fully restored NCR National Cash Register Co. model 416 serial number 1468479. This fine piece of Victorian art has the "empire" case design. The case is constructed of solid red brass/bronze that has been given an oxidized finish which really enhances the appearance of the ornate scroll work and makes this register really pop with beauty. It was sold new to the Boehmke Co. of Cleveland, Ohio on 1-6-1915 by Al Hattenbach of NCR as evidenced by the paper label located on the bottom of the drawer. There is also another paper label attached to the bottom of the drawer that states that this register was "overhauled" by the National Cash Register Co. Cleveland office on 1-7-1927. From my limited research I found that the Boehmke Co. was located at 382-384-386 Superior Ave. which was right in downtown Cleveland. They appeared to specialize in German & French wines and also had a patent issued to them for whiskey.
It is complete and all original with the exception of the "Amount Purchased" topsign and the little "National Cash Register Co." tag on the lower front. Both were missing when I got this so I replaced them with high quality reproductions.
Not only does this register look fabulous but everything works perfectly on it as well. It operates very smoothly, all the buttons work, the drawer rolls open and closes well, it adds correctly, and it even has a fully functioning printer with paper in it.
I did go over the entire mechanism of this register very carefully. It was cleaned and lubricated as well to insure years of reliable operation. The ornate scroll case was professionally polished and oxidized and then it was clear coated with a quality lacquer to protect the finish for years to come. All of the plating is original with the exception of the crank handle and a couple of other small items which I did have professionally replated. The amount labels on the buttons as well as the retaining rings which hold them on are original and not reproduction. The wooden drawer base case was stripped and refinished in a warm medium walnut and there was a patch put in on the lower back right side corner as it had some damage to it. The actual cash drawer itself I left alone as it is in exceptional original condition and I didn't want to lose the paper labels attached to the inside of it where the paper money would go. The drawer rolls good and the plating on the paper bill weights is original however I did replace the little rubber "O" rings on them as the others were dry and brittle. The marble coin slab piece on the front of it has been replaced with a proper sized and fitting replacement piece as the original marble piece was cracked in 2 places when I got it.
It comes with several keys, one which locks the little flap/door on the front which conceals the customer counter, one which goes in the lock on the left side to lock the paper compartment door, one which goes in the front to lock or unlock the register from operating if the drawer is open as well as locking the register from operating altogether, one which opens up a gate to allow viewing of the daily sales total, and finally one which resets the daily sales back to zero to start the next day.
The dimensions on this are 20 1/2" wide by 16 3/4" front to back. It proudly stands 25 3/4" tall to the top of the "Amount Purchased" topsign.
What you see is what you get.
This register weighs 125 pounds before packaging so after packaging it will weigh too much to be safely delivered by UPS. This is why I am suggesting local pickup on this item. There are a number of companies which offer this type of service. I would be happy to deliver it to our local craters and freighters location for free for them to professionally crate and ship this register to you. You can contact them for a shipping quote online at cratersandfreighters.com. You would need to make the shipping arrangements and payment to them, not to me. Please don't ask me to provide a quote on this as there are numerous variables in the services needed for me to be able to provide one for you. I would also be willing to make a wooden crate for this and deliver it locally to a shipper that you choose and make all of the arrangements with if you are willing to pay the costs of making the crate which I would expect to be around 0.00. Furthermore, I am willing to drive up to 200 miles and meet you on a Saturday or Sunday for .50 cents per mile if this is something that might interest you. If you have some other proposal for retrieval of this item please contact me before bidding to make sure it is something we can agree on.
This item is being sold as is with no warranty or returns being offered.
