Description
Rare twice mailed Scott #777 first day cover from Providence, RI, flown on the LZ-129 Hindenburg from Lakehurst to Frankfurt, then to Southampton for the first voyage of the Queen Mary to New York.Cover details:
May 4, 1936, Providence, RI, postmark, tying plate number block of 6 Scott #777 (this was the first day of issue for the Roger Williams stamp); also paid with Scott #'s C7 and C8 plate # singles. The cover has the proper Lakehurst Transatlantic Hindenburg cachet and receiver in Frankfurt on the 14th (Sieger flight #13 for the Hindenburg). The cover was airmailed to London and Southampton where it received additional franking, and was postmarked on the 27th, when the Queen Mary disembarked on her maiden voyage - she arrived in New York on June 1st.
Condition is as shown in the pics. The #14 cover (5" X 11.5") shows minimal toning and is in quite nice condition. It has an open flap with gum intact. The reverse is unremarkable.
